The Long Beach Camerata Singers “Blast!” choral music to the future with the first concert of our season! Feel the thundering power of the organ as renowned virtuoso organist Jung-A Lee harnesses the power of the pipes on gorgeous works by Herbert Howells and Ralph Vaughan Williams. The CSUF Percussion Ensemble, harpist Ellie Choate and the Manhattan Beach Middle School Chorus raise their voices with the Camerata Singers and organ for ground-breaking and gripping new works by young composers Tarik O’Regan, Jonathan Dove, and indie rock darling Nico Muhly. Become swept away by the spirit of innovation as you encounter the world premiere of a composition by Ken Walicki– an artist known for breaking rules, building bridges, and enrapturing audiences with his unconventional, heart-filled works. We bring the evening to a breathtaking finale with a performance of Leonard Bernstein’s beloved Chichester Psalms. This work–arguably one of Bernstein’s finest–is infused with echoes of West Side Story and Candide, and remains an audience favorite throughout the world.
