Introducing Dr. James K. Bass, Artistic Director

July 1, 2017 marks the beginning of Dr. Bass’ appointment as the Long Beach Camerata Singers’ Artistic Director. Dr. Bass was appointed Professor and Director of Choral Studies at UCLA in July 2016.

Formerly at the University of South Florida (Tampa) since 2010 as Associate Professor, Bass also served as Artistic Director of the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay, the artistic partner of The Florida Orchestra. He is the Associate Conductor, Director of Education Outreach and Singer for the Professional Chamber Choir, Seraphic Fire.

In 2012 he received 2 Grammy nominations with the ensemble. In 2015 he received a Grammy nomination for his solo vocal work with the Texas-based ensemble Conspirare.

Dr. Bass received his DMA in conducting from the University of Miami in 2005 and both Bachelor and Master degrees from the University of South Florida, Tampa. He is active in several professional associations, including the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), serving as an Executive Board member in the Central Division.
