Bach’s setting of the passion story from the Gospel of John is considered to be one of his greatest artistic triumphs.  The extraordinary score combines texts from John, eighteenth-century poetry and German chorales to create a dramatic musical experience in operatic scale.  We are pleased to recreate this powerful piece as it may have been heard in Bach’s time, by performing with Baroque instruments and careful attention to historical tradition. Projected English supertitles will more directly communicate Bach’s dramatic purpose and enhance your listening experience.  This performance promises to be one of the biggest classical music events in Long Beach this season.

In part of the 40th Anniversary of the Long Beach Bach Festival

Tickets: $30 general, $40 preferred seating, $10 student tickets are available at the door with a valid student I.D.
