British choral music in the late 19th and 20th centuries is considered some of the most dynamic in musical history. The flowering of the choral art in England during this period was funded by aristocratic families such as the characters of Downton Abbey. Travel back in time to experience the music that would have served as the “real life soundtrack” of the Earl of Grantham. Chuckle as our own “Lady Violet” trades barbs with Artistic Director Rob Istad.

Light up your holidays with a chamber version of Handel’s magnificent Messiah featuring professional soloists and baroque instrumentation. An annual tradition for many years, reviewers have referred to past performances as “thrilling,” describing the sound as “lovely, well balanced and colorful.”

Monteverdi’s music shattered the traditions of the past and propelled western music into the future. His resplendent Vespers of 1610 infused the structure and counterpoint of the West with the mysticism of the East and the passion of Italian opera. “Vespers of 1610” is packed with the jewels of eastern mysticism, vocal fireworks, and Baroque embellishment. This vivid masterpiece exemplifies the opulence of Venice’s eminence in the seventeenth century and Monteverdi’s struggle for musical revolution.
